WT20 Super Tens India vs Pakistan
Super 10
India open with win against Pakistan
Mar 21, 2014
India comfortably won their opening match against arch rivals Pakistan with 7 wickets in hand.
After sending Pakistan to bat on a wicket that had enough for the spinners, Amit Mishra lead the attack restricting Pakistan to a below-par total of 130 for seven. Mishra (2/22), Jadeja (1/18) and Ashwin (0/23) all got a bit of help from the track. The chase was not expected to be very challenging and Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma gave a solid start adding 54 runs for the first wicket in eight overs. However, India lost three quick wickets within a space of 14 balls, but Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina saw India through with nine balls to spare. Kohli hit four fours and a six during his unbeaten 32-ball 36, while Raina’s unbeaten 35 came off 35 balls with equal number of boundaries and six. This was Pakistan's fourth straight loss to India in the shortest format's marquee event, and 9th overall in World Cups. The WT20 tally includes:
• the 'bowl-out' after an exciting tie at Kingsmead, Durban on September 14, 2007
• loss by five runs in the final at Johannesburg on September 24, 2007
• loss by 8 wickets at Colombo (RPS) on September 30, 2012
• loss by 7 wickets at Dhaka on March 21, 2014.
