England beat New Zealand by six wickets to put the defence of their ICC World Twenty20 crown back on track. Steven Finn grabbed 3-16 to restrict New Zealand to 148/6 and then Luke Wright scored 76 runs as England reached its victory target of 149 with seven balls remaining in Pallekele. Wright smashed five sixes and as many boundaries off 43 balls. Electing to bat first, James Franklin top scored with 50 as the Kiwi's set a target of 149 after recovering from 67 for 4 early in their innings.
