Sri Lanka beat England in World Twenty20. Sri Lanka beat England by 19 runs to reach the World Twenty20 semi-finals along with West Indies Monday and send the defending champions crashing out of the tournament. England lost by 19 runs. Samit Patel played the leading role in a half-century stand with a 48-ball 67 before he became a fifth victim for Lasith Malinga (5-31). Sri Lanka, on the basis of their supreme run-rate as compared to other teams, became the first team to qualify for the semis of the World Twenty20 when England were 87/5 at the 13.1 overs mark with 41 balls to spare.
