India coast past Pakistan to keep hopes alive

Chasing an easy target of 129, Virat Kohli hit an unbeaten 78 off 61 balls to propel India to an 8-wicket victory over Pakistan with 3 overs to spare. After losing Gambhir for a duck, Virender Sehwag and Virat Kohli controlled the innings by playing sensibly. Sehwag hit a sedate 29 before falling at 75/2 in the 11th over. Yuvraj Singh remained unbeaten on 19.Earlier, electing to bat, Pakistan were all out for 128 thanks in part to Indian spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuvraj Singh who returned similar figures of 2-16. Seamer Lakshmipathy Balaji chipped in with three wickets. Australia look virtually certain to reach the last four and the other three teams - including South Africa - all still have a chance of progressing. Reported Earlier: Pakistan skipper Mohammad Hafeez won the toss and decided to bat first against India. Virender Sehwag returned to the playing XI after missing last two matches against England and Australia. Lakshmipathy Balaji also made his way back in to the team. Piyush Chawla and Harbhajan Singh were left out for today's match. Pakistan have never beaten India in either the 50-over World Cup or the World Twenty20, but today they start as the favorites to ouster India from the cup. Pakistan will look to extend their dominant form and put India on the brink of elimination in the clash everyone is waiting for. India were humiliated by Australia in their opening Super Eights match, and will have to pick up the pieces in their do-or-die game in the World Twenty20 Super Eights game at Colombo. The last time the two teams met India lost to Pakistan in a warm-up game on Sep 17th by 5 wkts.
