Twenty20 World Championship 2007

West Indies vs Bangladesh

ICC World 20-20, WI vs BAN, Group A: Bangladesh beat West Indies by 6 wickets

West Indies Cricket team Bangladesh Cricket team West Indies were knocked out of the World Twenty20 competition after they lost to a spirited Bangladesh by six wickets in Johannesburg.
Set a modest 165 for victory, Bangladesh romped home with two overs to spare as their skipper Mohammad Ashraful hammered an electrifying 27-ball 61 to script a win and also won the man of the match. However, the sad news for West Indies is that they lost both their matches and are out of the competition while Bangladesh, who play South Africa tomorrow have qualified for the second round along with the hosts.
Earlier,West Indies scored 164-8 from their 20 overs. The Windies were in a must-win situation today as wet pitch depayed the start of the match by one hour. Bangladesh started off well as Syed Rasel removed Chris Gayle, who hit 117 from 57 balls in the defeat by South Africa, for duck in the opening over.
Devon Smith and Shiv Chanderpaul built the innings with 95 in 13 overs. Marlon Samuels smashed two sixes and two fours in an over and Dwayne Smit clobbered three successive sixes in an entertaning seven-ball 29.
