Sep 18, 2007
Led by captain Malik and Misbah Ul Haq , Pakistan inflicted a humiliating defeat on Australia chasing the set target with 5 balls and six wickets in hand. Pakistan earlier touted as favorites seeing their talent and experience have now two back to back wins over Sri Lanka and Australia respectively. Pakistan now are most likely to enter the Semifinal.
Chasing a total of 164 runs for victory against Australia, Pakistan managed to recover well led by its captain Shoaib Malik and Misbah Ul Haq, who scored a brilliant fifty. Pakistan required just 22 runs of last three overs. However a straight drive from Misbah meant Pakistan now need just 16 runs on same number of balls.
Batting first on a placid Johannesburg wicket against a formidable bowling attack of Pakistan, Australia managed to their rivals a decent total of 164 runs to chase. Australia in pursuit lost wickets at regular intervals, which stopped them from putting a mammoth total.
